Please how is this woman 44 years old? After seeing these pictures, I had to drop the oat meal and Nsala soup I was eating in shame and run to the gym! You would agree with me that she looks flawless. I guess it is really true what they say, "That black don't crack!" LOL. If I ever met Naomi Campbell I would definitely be trading beauty/ skin care secrets with her!

What do you guys think? Does she look HOT or HOOTTT?!

So I have to admit, the winter season is not my favorite time of the year! But with every other season, I try to wear as many colorful clothes as possible, as they always elate my mood. :) :)

I love this blue peplum skirt from ASOS, and I styled a different color of it HERE. When I saw it was on sale, it was a no brainer to cop it at a much cheaper price. The great thing about it is the texture of the material, which is perfect for the winter. This is how I styled it to Church with my striped sweater.

How adorable is this Crystal Clutch purse by Judith Leiber Couture? It comes in soo many beautiful colors such as Silver Sunflower, Silver Plum, Silver Rose, Silver Champagne, Silver Hyacinth, Silver Crimson, Silver Olivine and more. Despite all its gorgeousness, I will admit that it is pricey at $2,695. If you agree that it is pricey, there is hope! I found a steal for a supppper affordable $35, and it just as head turning! :) :) These clutches are perfect for weddings, cocktails, or to just glam up any outfit!

As it is starting to get a little chilly in Jersey, I tried to stay warm with my Trench Coat/ Cardigan, which I absolutely love. It is not warm enough for the winter, but it is just perfect for the fall. I also thought it created the perfect monochrome look.

October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness month. I am sure every single one of us know someone who has had, or someone who was affected by breast cancer. Please support Breast Cancer Awareness anyway you can; educate yourself and your loved ones, do breast self exams, follow up on your yearly mammograms, donate to the cause, and show love to all the breast cancer survivors!

I hope you all are having a great weekend so far? Am I the only one who thinks the summer is flying by prettie quickly? I am trying to make the most of what is left of the summer, and so far, I have a lot of things left undone on my "to-do" list. I can't even believe that I have not stepped foot to New York this summer, and it is only like 10 minutes away from me.  I also wanted to go to Atlantic City, NJ, as I have never been (covers face) so hopefully, I will, before it starts to get cold.

If you guys remember, I had blogged about these floral/striped sandals in the spring HERE. I finally got a chance to wear it to my friend's baby shower. If you were able to get your hands on a pair, you would agree that they are very comfortable.

Today, I would like to talk about a few dietary changes we can make to lower our cholesterol. High cholesterol levels are becoming more of a problem, especially in the younger population. More and more young people are presenting with high cholesterol levels. Lowering your cholesterol levels is a great way to keep your heart healthy, and lower your risk of heart disease and stroke. Some people are genetically predisposed to high cholesterol levels, so in addition to dietary modification, will need to take medication to control their cholesterol levels.

The American Heart Association recommends all adults 20 years and older, have their cholesterol and other risk factors checked. Before you are able to lower your cholesterol, you have to know your numbers. In order to test your cholesterol, your doctor will check your complete fasting lipoprotein profile, also called lipid panel. Typically, a lipoprotein profile will contain a total blood (or serum) cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein/ HDL (good) cholesterol, Low Density Lipoprotein/ LDL (bad) cholesterol, and tryglycerides.  Ideally, you want to increase your good  (HDL) cholesterol, and decrease your bad (LDL) cholesterol.

In addition to exercise, one major way to lower your cholesterol is through your diet. Here are top foods, that will help you lower your cholesterol;

1. Oatmeal, Oat bran and High Fiber foods

Eating Oatmeal, lowers your LDL (the bad) cholesterol. Soluble fiber is also found in beans, apples, prunes, barley. Soluble fiber help to reduce the absorption of cholesterol into your body.
Personally, I try to eat oatmeal at least once every day. When I cook (nigerian) soup, I don't make "pounded yam" or "garri", I use oatmeal, and I find that I enjoy it just as much.

One of the things I love about the summer is the fact that I get to go to a lot of outdoor activities with friends, including going to the beach, barbeques, etc. On one of such occasions, I wore this ensemble to a barbeque with my girlfriend. Usually, when I go to events that there will be lots of food, I tend to wear free flowing clothes, so that I don't have to worry about sucking in my tummy after I have stuffed my face! LOL.

Happy Monday! I hope everyone's week started out great? I am post call today because I was on call last night till this morning, so thankfully, I have some time to study today as my exam is fast approaching. One of the things I love about my days off (which is usually like once, sometimes twice a week), is that I get to play dress up :) LOL!  A lot of times I buy stuff and don't get a chance to wear them for a while, because I am always at work, and barely go anywhere. So I am always happy when friends invite me out to go places.

Last weekend, I had such a great time out with a friend of mine, as we both went to her friend's engagement party. It was a good break from all the studying. I wanted to go for a super girlie look, so I styled this scenic print midi skirt, which I blogged about HERE, with a lace crop top. This was the outcome. I love all the colors on the skirt, and the scenic print is very vivid in person, it was love at first sight! :)

I know I haven't posted a song of the day in a hot minute, but this song by Magic is one of favorite songs currently getting lots of airplay. No matter what I am doing, as soon as I hear it, I always sing along in excitement!

I often get asked by patients , "What will happen if I don't breastfeed my baby?' The honest answer is, while nothing will happen, your baby and you are better off if you breastfeed. While I have come to understand the reasons mothers give as to why they cannot breastfeed, I still encourage breastfeeding. Various studies have shown why breastfeeding, with or without bottle feeding is a better option than just bottle feeding alone.

If you are young mother or future mother, who is contemplating not breastfeeding your baby, here are the top 10 reasons why you should.

1. It helps bond mother and baby
Often times, right after the birth of their babies, mothers are encouraged to breastfeed the baby, as it helps the mother-baby bond. It is like a special moment that you share with your baby.

2. It boosts your baby's immune system
When babies are born, their immune system is generally weak. By breastfeeding your baby, you give them antibodies to fight against infections such as measles, chicken pox, and other contagious diseases.

I hope everyone is having an amazing weekend? I apologize that I have been MIA. I have been studying for my board exam, which I take August 5th and 6th (it's a two day exam). Hey Lovelies!

Thank God it is Friday! I LOOOOOOOOOVEE this Peter Pilotto for Target dress from their Collection, which I blogged about HERE and HERE. The prints and colors are beyond amazing! As expected, they sold out prettie quickly, but not before I could get my hands all over them! lol!

Last Wednesday, for my Residency Program's graduation dinner, I paired the Print Dress and Blazer from the collection to create this emsemble, and I loved the outcome. Not only did I get the look I was going for, I had an amazing night. I am truly blessed to have the most amazing colleagues. Everyone is just like family, and I dare say that I love them all! :) Everybody ended up dancing, including the attending physicians, and it was soo much fun!

I congratulate all the graduating Residents and wish them all the best in their respective careers!

While rounding on my patients yesterday, I walked into the room of my 93 year old patient to behold one of the most beautiful things ever. Her 98 old husband was standing over her, feeding her yoghurt and kissing her on her forehead after she took every spoon. I stood at the door for a minute, watching, in awe of their amazing love. After I interrupted to announce my presence, the husband told me, "She is not eating her breakfast. She doesn't want any of the other things over there (pointing to her tray in the corner). She just wants the yoghurt". I smiled at him. After, I examined her and told them the plan for the day, I walked away from their room still amazed.

The following day, when I came back to see her at 7:30am, he was there. When I asked her if she had had a bowel movement, he responded saying, "No. I would have seen it. I clean her up. I always wipe her up when she is sick and in the hospital." I had to hold back the "Aaaawwwwwwwhhhhh" that I was dying to say. I loved their love! I wanted to probe further. As if he could read my mind, he continued, "We have been married for 70 years, and she has never had any problem going to the bathroom. But she hasn't been eating much, so I guess that is why." As I listened to him, I thought to myself that she must be one of the luckiest women alive. My patient had a condition that had significantly disfigured her. Yet her husband loved her unconditionally.

I hope you are having a great weekend so far? Last weekend my very good friend and neighboor, Seyi was having a potluck. After frying plantain to my hearts desire, I decided to throw on my "kiriki star" Ankara print "iro and buba", and head downstairs to the event. There was soooooooo much to eat, lots of great energy, and I had a lot of fun! By the time it was done, I was extremely grateful that I could just shuffle myself up a few floors and pass out, cos I was stuffed to my eye balls :). The ankara "kirikiri print" was a trend when I was a little girl, but made a come back a few years ago. My mum had the "iro and buba"(a traditional attire where 'Iro' is like a wrap skirt/wrapper while the 'Buba' is the top) made for me 2 plus years ago, so I was glad that I finally got to wear it. I absolutely love the colors! Thank you mummy!!! LOL :) :) What do you guys think?

As most of you must have already heard, Dr. Maya Angelou has passed at the age of 86. She was an activist, an amazing writer and poet, and someone whose quotes I often drew inspiration from. The impact she made is undeniable, and she will not be easily forgotten. We have lost another legend!

I would like to take my fitness regimen a bit more seriously, cos normally, I go to the gym work out agressively for 1 or 2 days, and then the following day when I am sore, I take a 1-2 week break! lol (don't judge me)... OMG!! Can you guys believe it has been 1 year since I started blogging?! I can't believe how much time has passed! Lupita Nyong'o is really making waves internationally and I can't help but be happy for her! From multiple awards, to magazine covers, to endorsements, and the list goes on, just from one movie role. She truly deserves it.

One of the things I infer from her story is that when God decides to bless you, NO jupiter can stand in the way of your blessings. This is to encourage you all that your story can be like Lupita; one day, your time will come, and all your hard work will pay off. When it hits you, you won't be able to explain it! Just wait, you'll see! :)

In the chaotic world of today, it is easy to get caught up in all that is going on around us. You turn on the news, there are deaths, murders, missing children, cases of domestic violence,  terroism, and all types of craziness. Sometimes, all I just want to do is leave my TV off or not go online because of all the potential things that you hear and see that can make you sad or mad, or both.

While we may have so much to worry about. Sometimes, it is also important to take care of ourselves as well as the people around us. We can only achieve this by living better and happier lives.

So here are a a few ideas on how to Improve your quality of life.

1) Slow Down
Some of us work crazy amount of hours with no breaks in between. All that stress can actually be detrimental to your health. I remember a patient I had who was a workaholic, never took the time to rest, or go for doctor visits. He was clearly stressed out, and was hypertensive. He did not know he was hypertensive till he ended up in emergency room, with a huge stroke. 


Sometimes, it is ok to just take a break. Go on a vacation! Just drop everything and relax for a minute. You can engage in other things that you enjoy, like playing sports, gardening, shopping, whatever it is that makes you happy.
